5 Years

I Graduated! Bit late now for a blog post- but as universal wisdom says “better late than never”

In September 2021 I started University, with a twinkle in my eye, and what would become my signature facial hair on my face (though at the time I was not sure) I moved into London, a student flat with all the trappings, random flat mates (some of whom I am still close with now) A bad kitchen, poor ventilation, tiny shower, and a persistent “smell”. But I made it my home, in a style I would say clutter away from clutter - those who now me understand the difference between my London rooms and Sheffield Childhood bedrooms! I pushed myself to socialize in every way I could, clubbing, culturing and even reconnecting with an old mate who took me to the “debating soc”. Well, we all know how that ended!

I never found University particularly easy, but I always loved the experience, savoured being an adult in London, living my best life, and after 5 long years, I am done. I graduated at the Barbican, a place I love. And the wind down begins, moving back home. I know I will be back- I don’t know when, but I am sure I will be back, and with that self-assurance, I know I can push myself in Sheffield, a place I know and love like my childhood sandbox.

I think to thrive in Sheffield I will have to disconnect from London, yes come back see my people, but become the new version of myself, having learnt the university lessons, now pushing myself in a different way, to enjoy myself yes, but also to work on myself. Not in some abstract way but set myself tasks and accomplish them in the sandbox, I will build in the sandbox, until hopefully opportunities take me out of it, and I move onto the next thing.

See you all on the flip side.
